When Someone Falls

At Olive we strive to do ministry to the least of these. Part of that is a recovery ministry to addicts of various backgrounds. We have many wonderful stories of victory. In October we will celebrate with several of the ladies at the Charis House as they graduate.

There are times when some people who have walked with Jesus and served others fail. This has happened among us this week. One of our recovery leaders turned back into sin. What do we do?

We grieve. We weep. Paul says that when it happens, ”you who are spiritual should restore such a person with a gentle spirit, watching out for yourselves so you won’t be tempted also.” (Galatians 6:1).

How do we do that?

1. Pray
2. Be humble
3. Stand for truth
4. Persist
5. Carry one another’s burden
6. Forgive
7. Rebuke
8. Restore

Ministry is harder some days than others. Today is a tough one for me.

  1. My heart hurts for everyone inovolved. In the words of my Pastor – Persist!

  2. It has been a tough day for me too Pastor. I just want her back in the Fold. It says in the Word that Jesus will leave the ninety-nine to go after the one. In fact, He rejoices more over the one when he comes back, than over the ninety-nine. Jesus came for the sick not for the well. Thank you Pastor for the kind words.I love her and miss her.

  3. Pastor, Gary & I are praying.

  4. So thankful for grace. None of this caught our Lord Jesus by surprise. I trust and know He will be glorified through this. Praying for you all.

  5. My prayers are with you all. 1Corinthians 10:13 says There is no temptation that has seized you execpt what is common to man and GOD IS FAITHFUL He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear, but when you are tempted He will also provide a way out. I have faith He will bring something good from what the devil wanted bad. I Love you all.

  6. My heart goes out to any person and family members that have this sin of addiction in their lives. I have dealt with it in my love ones lives. There is so much pain in these families. Praying for this dear one and the family. Trust in The Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding , in All your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.

  7. My prayers go out to all of you & the ones outside the staff that miss & love her too!

  8. My guys over at BCF in my dorm hall are praying for her!

  9. Pastor, Tommy and I just found out. Needless to say that I feel like my heart was ripped from my chest. I love and hurt for Jackie. Tommy and I are agreeing in prayer for restoration. It is hard for us to imagine what good can ever come from this, but I pray that God will be glorified and that Jackie’s restoration will be used more powerfully than her privious testimony every could have to bring Him glory. It has to because Satan will NOT win her back! The gates of hell will not prevail!

  10. I noodled on this for quite a while before deciding to put my words out there. I try to think that my reaction to this should be like that of Christ. He is not up in heaven wringing His hands saying: “Oh what are we going to do about this?” I stand firm in my faith that Jesus is in control of all things. Addicts medicate many things and I medicated fear more than anything. I know this sister is scared. I also know that by now she has found some wonderful help. But more than anything, I know that God never stopped loving her, He didn’t love her less because she slipped and my reaction wiill be the same. I hope we all make it easy to come back because if I ever go back out there, I hope it is easy for me to come back.
