The New Tolerance

by  / 4 Comments / Filed under

When one wades into the cultural battle for truth, one must be prepared to be called judgmental. “Judge not” becomes a favorite Bible verse of those who will accuse you of not being tolerant. However, there are 2 kinds of tolerance in our vocabulary. The tradition tolerance is recognizing and respecting other’s beliefs without sharing them. But the “new tolerance” calls for an elevation of all values and beliefs to a position of equal respect. I recently read where this kind of thought was deemed “cool” by a writer. Yet this cool tolerance is a slippery slope.

Those who want same sex marriage to be on the same respect level with Biblical marriage would never grant the same status for the KKK philosophy and racial equality. Nor should they. Yet when Biblical truth is shown to be in disagreement with certain liberal stands we are accused of being intolerant. Truth is the new hate speech.

As Christians we must continue to speak the truth in love.

  1. You are absolutely right, Pastor. I wrote my doctoral dissertation on this and we are seeing the fruit of this worldview known as Postmodernism throughout all level of society. It has entered the church as well in very subtle ways. We are in a battle for Truth; the very nature of Truth has been redefined and thus people have a difficult time with any absolute stand on anything. Morality has become meaningless to this mentality. Christians need to realize that satan is behind this subtle attack that is now bring forth a harvest of corruption. For more information see http://www.FoundationMinistries.org and find us on FaceBook. We are so passionate about this that we have just recently dedicated ourselves to the “fight” full-time. We are available to come to any Christ-loving Church to encourage the Pastor and congregation in 1 Peter 3:15. Pastor, thank you for this blog. In Jesus, Dr. Jack

  2. So true, Pastor! We need to not only speak the truth in love, but also with boldness. Thank you for being a man of integrity and truth!

  3. My old friend, you have hit the nail on the head. What troubles me is that the liberal view of tolerance demands acceptance of thier views and practices. They not only want us to tolerate same sex marriages and homosexuality, but they want us to accept it as “normal.” I can’t accept as normal what God’s Word has called abomination.

  4. How can you compare supporting same sex marriage to supporting the ideology of the KKK? One of these ideas is about the private lives of two people who love each other and the other is about a group of people who promote hate and racism. If you can’t differentiate between why it’s not OK to support the KKK while supporting same sex marriage then there really is no hope for having a rational conversation on this issue is there?
