Looking Back and Moving Forward

Last night Liz and I had dinner with the Pulpit Search Committee that recommended us to Olive in 1990.  These Olive members and spouses were the first people we met in Pensacola. There is a special bond.  It has been a great adventure. I am grateful for the trust they placed in me.

There were great stories around the table. Carol Dunn had saved notes from the meetings. She gave those to me. In the folder I found comments from conversations the members had with my references. These were informative and humbling. I had several reflections from this walk down memory lane.

  1. God calls and directs His church.
  2. When people pray and believe God answers.
  3. God uses people to do His work.
  4. The vision of lay leaders is important in the life of the church.
  5. Cross generational leaders are vital in the church.
  6. Without a vision the people perish.
  7. Interim pastors are key players in transition.

I am honored to pastor Olive Baptist Church. Bob Davis (chairman) and his wife Betty are in heaven. So are Loma West and Joe Pinson. Clyde, Carol, Larry#1, Dave, Dennis, and Larry#2 will always have a special place in my heart.

It is good to look back remember and be grateful. Now it is time to look forward and do the work God called us to do.

  1. Pastor Traylor,
Dad was so proud to have been a part of the Search Committee that brought you to Olive. He loved and admired you in many ways. We are all certainly blessed to have you as our Pastor. Under your leadership, Olive has accomplished great things and will, without doubt, continue to do so. The impact that you have on the guys here at the Prison Camp is amazing. I’m thankful for the television and radio ministry that Olive supports in order for them to be able to share in the service. Congratulations on your twenty three years and I pray God will keep you with us at Olive for another fifty :-) Have a blessed day.
    Lauren Pinson Lee :-)
