Because of Life
January 26th, 2010I am currently sitting in the Atlanta airport waiting for my flight to San Antonio. The Great Commission Resurgence Task Force team will meet today through Thursday. This is a very important meeting and I ask that you pray faithfully during the next three days. Maximizing the Southern Baptist Convention’s future impact in spreading the Gospel is the focus of the task force. Please intercede for wisdom, unity of minds, and clarity of direction. Dr. Ronnie Floyd has done a marvelous, spirit-led job in leading our team.
The Women’s Media Center, the National Organization for Women, and the Feminist Majority have launched campaigns protesting the upcoming Super Bowl ad sponsored by Focus on the Family. It will feature Tim Tebow and his mom Pam in a commercial titled, “Celebrate Life, Celebrate Family”. The argument, according to Jehmu Greene, president of the New York-based Women’s Media Center, is that “an ad that uses sports to divide rather than to unite has no place in the biggest national sports event of the year - an event designed to bring Americans together.” Read these words carefully and no doubt you will see the hypocrisy in this statement. The world has this upside-down. Events are celebrated BECAUSE of life. We are given opportunities BECAUSE of life. Our abilities to participate in sports and use our talents is BECAUSE of life. Americans come together BECAUSE of life. Most importantly, all of this is made possible because life is given to us by our Creator God. Those who stand in opposition to this ad cannot embrace this because their belief system is that our “rights” are more important than doing right. I am grateful for the Tebow family and their bold celebration of a life lived with Kingdom vision and mission.
