A Word on the Marriage Protection Amendment
July 25th, 2008The Presidential race is heating up. Barak Obama and John McCain are moving quickly and running hard toward the national political conventions. On November 4, America will elect a new President. I encourage everyone to go to the polls and vote. Be involved in the process. There is much at stake.
Other items will be on the ballot on November 4. Florida has the Marriage Protection Amendment on the ballot. It is Amendment 2. A YES vote for Amendment 2 preserves the definition of marriage between one man and one woman and prevents activist judges from legalizing same-sex marriage in Florida as they did in Massachusetts and California. Passing this amendment is a challenge because under new state law the amendment must have a 60% majority to win. Surveys show this to be a tight vote. As we already know in Florida, every vote in the Panhandle makes a big difference. I plan to vote YES and encourage you to do the same.
You cannot vote unless you are registered. The deadline to sign up and be eligible for the fall election is October 6. Make sure you have everything in order to vote.

I’m a bit concerned that this amendment only stops at marriage being between one man and one woman. Marriage is not only a commitment but it’s also a contract. You stand in front of your friends, family, a pastor and God and agree to ” to death do us part”, yet there is no constitutional ban on getting a divorce, marrying a non-christian, having a child out of wedlock, or even the number of times a person can marry, there isn’t even a law against adultery and that is a commandment. Shouldn’t Christians, conservatives and all republicans not only be worried about the “gay agenda” but also the fact that strangers can marry on television for a million dollars (on a game show none the less)? And then have the marriage annulled the next morning? Is is ok to be married 2 times? How about 10 times? Being married 10 times is not favored by any biblical verse, but yet it is never protested against, preached about, frowned upon nor is it against the law. Why is this ballot so limited? Why are we cherry picking family values? Lets be consistent across the board!
