In Deuteronomy 26 Moses writes about First Fruits. He teaches his people about giving a tithe. It is so the Levite, the alien, the orphan and the widow will have basic needs met. In this chapter the worshipper had to give public declaration that he had not used his tithe for something other than this purpose. Learning to tithe is an important lesson for all of us to learn.
This Sunday at Olive we will receive food items for the Ministry Village Food Pantry. We do this every month with a 5th Sunday. As you come to church bring your Bible, a friend, your tithe and a gift of food for the needy.
I had a call yesterday from a scam artist claiming to be a rep from Microsoft. The man wanted to help me with a vicious computer virus. He sound real. He wanted to help. He knew his business (does not take more to know more than I know). So I listened for a little while. When he insisted, I hung up. He called back. When he wanted personal information I got off the line.
There is one going about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. Satan is the ultimate scam artist. Watch out! He is good at what he does. And more than your computer will crash.
Great is HE that is in me than he who is in the world!
There is a moral dilemma in America.
The Secret Service scandal
The GSA Scandal
The killing of Trayvon Martin and the response
The Bobby Petrino Scandal
These are just a few and I have not even seen today’s news. There is an obvious moral crisis in America. Something is wrong at our core.
If the center is not right then the circumference is always way out of line. America needs a Biblical, spiritual and moral revival. That includes the church, and you and me. I encourage you today.
DO WHAT IS RIGHT!
Hilary Rosen stepped in a hornets nest this week. The Democratic strategist said Mitt Romney’s wife “never worked a day in her life.” This reminded me of another Hillary. Mrs. Clinton said in 1992 she could have stayed home and baked cookies. Mothers who chose to stay home with their young children do some of the toughest work in the world. Some suggest what is meant is a mom does not get paid. Well, I understand a check does not get deposited every two weeks. However, the payoff in the life of a child is big time.
People say some stupid things in public. Believe me, I have done it. Warning! Do not pick on moms. These are some tough ladies. And they work more than 9 to 5.
The first home stand is over for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. It was SUCCESS on every side. The AA baseball club is a grand addition to Pensacola. This should prove to be a boost for our city for years to come.
It took vision and courage to step out and lead. Quint Studer did it. His investment in Pensacola is extraordinary. He took the lead and the heat! Other community leaders played a big role. However, no one placed their life on the line like Quint. I have watched him and read his material. From a young man who had a speech problem to a leader of hospitals and beyond, Quint has a wonderful story.
Quint, from my seats in section 103 you look like a champion!
HE IS RISEN!
On Monday afternoon I took about 40 minutes and walked door to door down Whitmire Street. This is the road at Olive back entrance. There I knocked on each door and gave an invitation to Easter services. I try to do this two times a year.
Knowing one’s neighbors is important. You could do this where you live. Extend an invitation to those who live around you. Stats tell us that many will join us at church if we just ask them. Give it a try. This weekend is a great opportunity to love your neighbor and tell your story.
